Types of Quinoa


White Quinoa:
If you are trying quinoa for the first time,  start with white quinoa. It has a mild flavor as compared to its darker cousins. Taste is mild sweet and often find in all stores.

Red Quinoa:
Red Quinoa color ranges from Orange to Red, however when it is cooked it turns into a brown color. Due to its nutty and earthy flavor it blends very good with cold salads.
Talking about the nutritional value, there is no significant additional value as compared to white quinoa



Back Quinoa:
The traditional quinoa seed had somehow crossbred with lamb’s quarter a North American grain and the result was black quinoa. Hence as a result, a new variety of this very nutritious food was born in Colorado. 
Black quinoa apart from the darker hue has a crunchier texture with a strong flavor compared to white quinoa. Black quinoa cooks quickly as compared to white quinoa. The unique black color is due to the presence of anthocyanins that prevent UV damage and oxidation of the plant. Anthocyanins are also said to protect the body against free radicals, chronic diseases, heart disease, cancer, diabetes etc.

Best Practices for How to Cook Quinoa? 

Quinoa can be cooked just like rice or barley. For example 1 cup quinoa needs 2 cups liquid and it takes around 15- 20 mins to get boiled.As this does not have much flavor you can even cook it in vegetable or chicken broth to make it flavorful.

Total cooking time: 20mis
 
Ingredients:
- 1 cup uncooked quinoa.
- 2 cups of water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Olive oil (Optional)

Direction: 
<> Rinse the quinoa thoroughly for 1 min.
<> Toast quinoa in olive oil (optional)
<> Add 2 cups of liquid or broth.
<> Add 1/2 spoon salt.
<> Cook it under covered lid for almost about 15 mins.
